Birthstones for November: Topaz and Citrine Topaz and citrine are appropriate birthstones for November birthdays. Topaz: gemstone in a rich rainbow of colors. Prized for several thousand years in antiquity, all yellow gems in antiquity were called topaz. Citrine, the other birthstone for November is known as the "healing quartz", said to support vitality and health while encouraging and guiding hope, energy warmth within the wearer. Citrine can be found in a many shades from pastel yellow to dark brownish orange.

"Years ago I was given an old electric mantle clock. The former owner told me that the clock used to strike on the hour but had not done so since the night her grandfather passed away some time before. She had taken it to a repair shop but was told that it wasn't worth it to try to fix it. The clock still ran well and kept great time so I sat it on top of our TV. One evening, a few months after I was given this clock, it struck once. Right after that one strike, my mother called me to say that my grandfather had just passed away. The clock never made another sound after that."

"Here's a recipe my Mom gave me - she says she doesn't know where it originated, but it is delicious. I've made it many times myself. Marie B"

1 lb soft butter
1 lb box powdered sugar
6 eggs
3 c flour
1 tspn vanilla

Beat butter, and add powdered sugar and eggs till fluffy and beat until. Add vanilla, then flour. Beat 10 minutes at medium. Bake in a greased and floured angel food cake pan one hour at 350 degrees
