Hey, Paul.. I'm not in any Amiga networks, but the last one I can remember was gated by Netsurge (who also ran Scinet) That network went MIA several years ago. Not a word, or any heads-up about closing up shop. The binkp server just stopped working. I still have a couple Amiga-500's in my closet. One of them I got off Ebay, mainly for parts. The orignal one I got at the store, it has a ton of extra games, books, manuals, addons +parts in box. No doubt, most if not

all the floppies are trashed/not worth anything by now. I never did own a monitor for it, just used a RGB TV-set.

Just posting to see where the messages end up and who's about?

There appears to be 18 posts here since Aug, 2014. Other PC's in my closet, are

a C-64, Atari 800/with dotmatrix printer, IBM 8080 and a 286 box. There should be some modems 1-300 baud, 1-1200, 1-9600, 1-14400, 1-ISDN, and 4-USR's ext, vEverything that where paid for in some type of sysop deal. Also a Cyclades 8-port serial card with Octopus serial cable. CYCLOM-8YO S/N:cycco13766. Old hardware is probably a hard thing to sale these days. My kids (know adults) will more then likely send it all to the dumpster someday.

    I'm another Lurker.

The C=64 here still works and 99+% of the floppy disks I have work too.

Never owned an Amiga, but know of one person who does and He has a computer repair shop over in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Off and On I've been looking for a SEQ/Text file I saved to a C=64 5-1/4" disk.

I Load and List the Directory of my floppies, and look to see how many Blocks it uses, because it is a very large file that I wrote over a period of time.

Of course I look at the File Name too, but I think looking for the size the file takes up on the disk will help me find it sooner.

I've got disks for the C-64 stuck in several boxes and actually I can't remember any disk that I tried, that I couldn't see the Directory on it.

But that might be because of Old Age setting in.

I will look at a few boxes of disks each time I feel like hunting for that file, then I'll come back over to the XP box since I use it as my main pc.

It would be easier if the file would just hollar and tell me where it is hiding.

Try Your C=64, I'd think it would work since it boot up from ROM Chips instead of from a Hard Disk or Floppy.

yeah, some ports do not like being connected and disconnected while powered up... old SCSI is especially bad about it... it definitely doesn't like having the wrong device plugged into it, either... eg: centronix ports used for different items like printers and external SCSI HDs or scanners...

Soldering new capacitors on a Commodore 64 printed circuit shouldn't be too hard to do.
Finding the capacitors might be the hard part if You don't have any place near by to buy them.

I use to buy parts from Radio Shack because they were located closer to my
home than the Wholesale Radio-TV Parts stores were.

Also I think the C=64 PC Board is an ordinary double sided board instead of
a multi-layer PC Board, or Surface Mounted PC Board.

If a electrolytic capacitor POPS it is easy to see which one on the PC Board gave up the ghost.
And then there is the smell.......

An Amiga 1200 with a memory expansion and a 8GB compact flash card.
    Nice computer.

That should be all the space you would ever need and more for a system like that. How does the system deal with it though. PC's had their hard drive size limits, so I would imagine that any system of the day would have it's one limits.

I never had an Amiga, but bought one a few years back.
An Amiga 1200 with a memory expansion and a 8GB compact flash card.
    Nice computer.
That should be all the space you would ever need and more for a system like that. How does the system deal with it though. PC's had their
hard drive size limits, so I would imagine that any system of the day would have it's one limits.

I am using SFS as a filesystem.
With FFS the limit is 4GB.

    Here it is explained:

    Howdy! Wilfred,

I found that C=64 SEQ file I have been looking for these past few weeks.

All 556 lines of it were just fine.

I just added some more than 254 space characters b4 I used the MSDOS64 PRG
to copy it to a 720KB PC formatted disk.

The SEQ file I was looking for was listed on the floppy disk's directory
in between some letters that I wrote between July 1985 and July 1986.

The Floppy Disk was manufactured by the Classic Memory Corporation in
Paoli, Indiana USA, 36 Miles/58 Kilometers(?) North-West of where I live.

I don't think the Company is in business anymore.
After I Searched for the Company and didn't see anything in the Results,
I went to the Local Newspaper and Searched there but didn't get any
    information at their website either.

Now I have the .TXT file on my XP box where I can Edit it when I want to.

I think it's a miracle you were able to read that of such an old floppy disk! ;)

    Bye, Wilfred.

I have many 25+ year old disks.
Most that I tried worked perfectly!
