• Went shooting this past weekend.

From Tech-D@VERT/DOS to All on Tue May 7 14:53:09 2013
First time in many of years. The only thing that I shot when I was younger was a .22 riffle that my friend's father taught me how to shoot.

This past weekend we went to a quarry that my friend works at. His bosses lets him come and fire a few rounds there on the weekends. So he brought along his Glock 17, Glock 22, 38 revolver, and an AK47.

I have smaller hands and although I enjoyed shooting the glocks my hand didn't fit around them comfortably like I had hoped. I play airsoft and have a glock clone that is based off a Glock 23 Gen 4. I was talking to my friend telling him that the airsoft gun fit in my hand really nice and I would like to try one of them out. He thought that the real Glock 23 Gen 4 grip might not be as small as the Airsoft version.

Have any of you guys shot one and be able to verify?

    Thanks in advance,
    Darren (Tech-D)

I'm the same way with the small hands problem. I find the Glock grip too large
    - even the new Gen4. I tried both a S&W M&P and a Springfield XDm and find the
Springfield XDm to have an almost perfect grip. Same grip angle as a 1911 and it's smaller than both the M&P and any of the Glocks. Try one of those in 9mm.
I even found the .45 version to be fine as well - I've got an XDm in 9mm and an
XD in .45. No problems with my small hands shooting either.

Thanks Nonya, just was checking out the XDm. That looks to be exactly what I was looking for.

    I have small hands too.
The Ruger LC9 I just bought fits perfectly.
My friend has a XDm .45 and it felt a little big to me. Also was really heavy when chambered + full mag.

The S&W M&P Shield 9MM feels odd. Even in my little hand it didn't feel right.

Another option if you're willing to go down in caliber might be the Ruger LCP .380. I'd guess most people would say its too small and they can't get their 3'rd or 4th finger on it even with the mag grip extension. If your hands are like mine, that little LCP fits nicely.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion, what I need to do is get out somewhere with a bunch of guns and just shoot and see what feels right. I would mainly have it for target practice and possibly for home protection (if needed), one of those insurance policies.

As gun owners do you feel that things are calming down after the shootings? I know I keep hearing about ammo being hard to get and AR15s can't stay on the shelves after it happened. I remember reading somewhere that the companies that make AR15s are slowly getting back to stock.

    Thanks again,
    Darren (Tech-D)

I keep hearing its supposed to be getting better but it doesn't seem that way. Here in Florida we have pretty lax gun laws. You can buy one and give it to a family member. You don't need to register, etc. The south is that way I guess.

But its hard to find ammo. It took me months to find my Ruger. I kept contacting the same 20 locations over and over until someone got one, and when i picked it up, i was lucky to find they had 1 box of 9mm FMJ round on the shelf. $18/50 I snagged 'em.

Sure you can use gunbroker.com and pay $200 over retail and fine one pretty easily, or one of the many online ammo sellers (if your state allows you to get ammo by mail) and pay as much in S&H as the ammo itself would normally cost.

If you can wait, I'd wait. It will calm down and it will get back to "normal".

    Thanks,
    Zombie Mambo

    Not Tennessee...

That's what I'm hoping too, but it sure is taking a long time to do it...
Or what SEEMS like a long time anyway...
